Things We Do

What do we do?

Basically, 3 things (that are super synergistic):

  1. Increase Civic Engagement. Three super-exciting words. What do they mean? More people voting, more people volunteering, more people taking part in that conversation of community that is sometimes called democracy (when we like it) and sometimes called politics (when we don’t). Democracy works better when more people participate. We try to have more people participate.
  2. Advance the Public Interest. You heard about this Citizens United thing (Supreme Court ruling) that lets big corporations spend unlimited money to support their favorite candidates and causes? Well, we still think the public interest means something, so we fight for causes and candidates who fight for good stuff — like sustainable policies, decent-paying jobs, public health. Want to know more? Check out one of our founders talking about democracy as part of a TEDx shindig.
  3. Develop a New Generation of Leaders. Talent is one of the most important things in any successful enterprise. Our nation is no different. Embedded in all of our work are intentional efforts to develop leaders through hands-on work. This is service learning for democracy, developing new generations of candidates, advocates, and community leaders — and new leaders who represent the full breadth of this country’s diversity, literally changing the face of our nation.
